Morgen Michel - Conducting Assistant

Morgen Michel is a London based French countertenor and conductor with a passion for choral music. He has been choral singing for over ten years and has studied conducting for the past five.

Morgen’s choral experience includes singing with Taplow Youth Choir under Gillian Dibden CBE; the Rodolfus Choir and Old Royal Naval College (ORNC) Chapel Choir under Dr Ralph Allwood MBE; and Genesis 16 with Harry Christophers and Eamonn Dougan. During his studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, he was a member of both Rubythroat, directed by Linda Hurst, and the Chamber Choir, working with Stephen Jackson, Sarah Latto, Dominic Ellis-Peckham and other leading conductors.

Morgen is also a member of the staff team for Rodolfus Choral Courses during the summer and has recently been accepted into the Monteverdi Choir. He has also undertaken educational work with The Sixteen.

Morgen studied Vocal Studies at Trinity Laban, completing both his Bachelor’s degree and Postgraduate Diploma. He was taught by Lynton Atkinson and coached by Alistair Young. Alongside his vocal studies, he pursued conducting through electives with Jonathan Tilbrook and Alexander Walker, with further mentoring from Ralph Allwood through the ORNC Chapel Choir. This gave him the opportunity to conduct the Chapel Choir on a number of occasions. He has also had the opportunity to shadow Vicente Chavarría, Trinity Laban’s Conducting Fellow, during opera scene rehearsals.

During his time at Trinity Laban, Morgen was awarded both the Morag Noble Scholarship and the Kathleen Roberts Vocal Scholarship. He also served as the head scholar, Morden Scholar, of the ORNC Chapel Choir for four years.

Morgen is the founder and director of Beati Consort, a choir established to provide early career professional singers with a regular professional ensemble in which to perform and develop. He is passionate about building a supportive community of musicians and believes strongly in helping to give as many of his colleagues and friends the best chance to try and make a living out of this amazing career we all want to pursue.

Morgen is incredibly excited and grateful to be joining Farnham and Bourne Choral Society. He looks forward to developing his conducting skills under the guidance of Ben de Souza, supporting the choir wherever he can, and working together on some fantastic music.
